Southwest Mississippi Children's Advocacy Center

The Southwest Mississippi Children’s Advocacy Center provides forensic interviews for children when there are allegations of physical or sexual abuse, as well children who may have witnessed a crime. The SW MS CAC works with a Multidisciplinary team to collaborate on the child cases in which the Center is involved. The MDT is made up of law enforcement, CPS, medical personnel, District Attorney’s Offices, Victim’s Assistance Coordinators and the CAC staff. The SW MS CAC offers on site therapy services for child victims and nonoffending family members, therapy for high-risk children and families, and adult therapy services. The SW MS CAC provides Victim’s Assistance Services to the children and families that are seen at the Center. They are provided with knowledge of the proceedings, collaboration with Law enforcement and CPS and work closely with the Victim’s Assistance Programs through the Attorney General’s office, in regards to providing financial assistance and services to the children and non-offending family members. We provide referral information about community services as well as medical referrals.

The Southwest Mississippi Children’s Advocacy Center offers prompt responses to the intake process, two onsite therapists for immediate follow up therapy, and art therapy classes for adolescent girls ages 12-18. All staff within the agency have been trained in Child First Interviewing Children and Preparing for Court. All staff have a background in social work, counseling or other related fields. We have four fully developed MDTs that are active and functioning on a monthly basis as well as relationships with all six counties in which we serve. The SW MS CAC also provides community education to various groups throughout the year. Education within the area schools is specifically given during April for Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Volunteers at the Center help with case management duties and assisting the staff duties relation to educational speeches. The volunteer’s duties may also include monitoring therapy clients as well as helping with scheduling therapy clients. Contact us if you would like to learn more about our volunteer opportunities.
